A meeting of the stewards of the Wellington Racing Club was hold yesterday afternoon, Mr E. Pearce in the chair. The Chairman stated that His Excellency the Governor and Lady Glasgow and, a party from Government House’had ao-' cepted the invitation to be present at the race meeting on Tuesday next, and that Lady Glasgow had kindly consented to present the Cup trophy to the winner, which ceremony would be performed on the lawn immediately after the race. The Secretary Lower Valley Jockey Club wrote stating that a.protest, against the horse Bouquet had been upheld, subject to the decision being endorsed by the Metropolitan Club. The grounds of the protest were that the horse was ineligible to compote in hack raws. The Metropolitan stewards, however, declined to endorse the action of the country club, as the alteration made in the definition of a “hack,” on which the finding was based, had not been advertised in the official calendar as required by the rules of : racing. : The question of whether the' horse Bouquet was eligible to start in', the Hack Race at the Hntt next Tuesday was considered in view of his having won a race at Motueka last season, and it was decided that, inasmuch as the Motueka Valley Racing Club’s programme (April, 189-1) was passed as a hack meeting. Bouquet will not bp disqualified as a hack at ,Wp{-
lingion for having won a race at Motueka in April last, .. , Mr B. Boato wrote intimating his willingness to act as clerk of the course at the summer meeting, _ It was decided to accept Mr J. Crawford's offer of the nse of one of his now patent starting machines for the meeting, the apparatus to he erected at the mile and a furlong post, immediately in front of the grand stand. _ Tbs services of Jupp s Private Brass Band were accepted for Tuesday and Thursday next. T , The racehorses Clarence and St. John, which are engaged at fho Wellington Eacing Club's Meeting, arrived at the Hutt The acceptances for the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting, at Miramar, on Wednesday next, close to-night. Pirawai, fist 10lb, is an acceptor for the Electric Handicap at the Foxton races. An enquiry was conducted by the Tv ellington Trotting Club delegates last night regarding tho complaint made by Mr Shannon against Mr Jorgenson of an alleged offer of bribery. Mr Jorgenson met Mr Shannon s statement with a complete denial, and tho delegates decided that, as Mr Shannon was unable to bring forward any other evidence to corroborate his own, they had no option but to dismiss the complaint.
