Tho heat between the Midland and Phoenix first elevens for the Senior Championship was'resumed on the Basin Deserve last evening. The weather was fine, and the yvicket in good order. The Phoenix, with two wiosets down for 30, continued their second innings, and ' when stumps were drawn had lost seven wickets for 79. "Waters played a good defensive inningsfor 19, and Webb, who hit hard, as usual,.was 15 not out. Dpham has secured five wickets for 44.'. Tho Midlanders fielded well. The Phoenix require 46 runs to win, and have three wickets to fall. Owing to the absence of Mullins, one of the Phoenix team, the Championship Committee decided last night that the match should not ho resumed until next Wednesday evening. An interesting table of the averages, of the English and Australiamplayers in the three test matches will bo found in the Nsw Zealand Mail this week. Wellington meet Phoenix on No. 2 wicket for the Senior Championship. Wellington team—Ashbolt, Bethune, Duncan, C. Gore, E. Gore, Holdship, Izard, Judd, Kirker, Whitehorn, Wrattj emergencies. Wood and Buckie. The Eival-Petone heat for tho Thirdclass Championship will be continued tomorrow at Karori. The brake loaves the Eoyal Oak Hotel at 2 o’clock. The third eleven of the Eival Club play the Paraparaumu Club next Tuesday (Anniversary Day). Mr J. P. Firth, the Principal of the Wellington College, has kindly allowed the teams to play the match on the school ground, owing to the Basin Eeserve being otherwise engaged. The country club have scored one win, and have been defeated on one occasion by their town opponents, who, it is expected, will meet a warm eleven next Tuesday. The Paraparaumu team, it is expected, will include Wilson, who was on tour with the Hawke’s Bay representative eleven last season, Ferris, one ’ of the fastest howlers on the coast, Arthur Maokay and J. Smith, the well-known Paikakariki batsmen. The following, will play for tho Eivals : —Buck, Henderson, liOngmoro, Liddlo, McNeil, Johnson, Cramp, Heather, Davis, Port and Warren. , The Paraparaumu team play the Porirua eleven, at Porirua, next Monday.
