MINISTERS IN THE NORTH.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Patea, May 2
The Minister for Public Works proceeded to the works on the North Trunk line at Huntervillo. The contractor is making fair headway, and has a large number of men employed- The Minister expressed himself highly pleased at the character of the country, the land being very good and grand for sheep pastures. A deputation, consisting of the principal residents, waited on the Minister in reference to a bridge across the Rangitikei at the Saudon Small Farm Settlement, and also a telephone station, long promised, to Huntervillo ; also that the Monday train from Marton might bring a mail down on Monday afternoon. Mr Johnston acted as spokesman, and very forcibly put the ease for the settlers. The Minister, In reply, said the several matters would receive careful consideration. His practice was to make no promises, but at the same time, when the proper time came, real necessities would not be overlooked. The importance of the place warranted telephonic oommunicatioo, and the Monday mailought to be conceded. He would communicate with the Postmaster* General at once, and urge this being done, seeing the cost was nil. The deputation thanked tha Minister and withdrew. The Minister proceeded with the through train to New Plymouth, and will from there to-night proceed by steamer to Auckland. Auckland, May 3. Messrs Seddon and Gadmau arrived in Auckland on Saturday.
