ARRIVAL OF R.M.S. TONGARIRO.

The New Zealand Shipping Company’s K.M.S. Tongariro arrived in harbor at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday from London, via Plymouth. Madeira, Capetown, and Hobart. She brings 100 passengers of all classes (17 of whom were landed at Hobart, 371 sacks of mails and 2800 tons of cargo, 1000 tons being for Wellington, 220 for Auckland, 740 for Port Chalmers, and 840" for Lyttelton. The passage out has been a very pleasant one; amusements in the shape of concerts, dances, athletic sports, etc., have been got np and passed off satisfactorily, and the passengers speak highly of the attention paid them -by Captain Bone and his officers. Of the passage we learn that the Tongariro left Plymouth after embarking mails and passengers at 2.30 p.m. on July 2. Experienced light northerly winds and fine weather across the bay to Madeira, arriving at 10.45 am on 6th July ; after coaling left again at 5.25 pm same day for Capetown, with light NE trades and fine weather to 9 N, there meeting the SE trades, which proved strong with head sea, and arrived at the Cape at 9.50 am 22nd July; steaming time, 19d lOhr llmin. After coaling and provisioning ship left for Hobart at 4.45 pm same day. Experienced light to moderate NW winds to the meridian of 135 E; from thence to Hobart moderate SW winds and fine weather, arriving at 9.45 am 9th August; steaming time from the Cape, 17d Bhr 21min; average speed, 13'7 knots. After landing 17 passengers for Australian porta, and coaling and provisioning the _ ship, she left at 2.20 pm for Wellington ; experienced strong to moderate southerly winds and fine weather, passing Cape Farewell at 2 am on the 10th August, and arriving here as above. The Tongariro’s total time from New Plymouth was 421 Ohr 20min, Her actual steaming time 40d 18hr SOmin. Her average speed was 13 1-5 knots. The officers associated with Captain Bone remain the same as last voyage with the exception of Mr B. W. Moorhouse, who succeeds Mr Smallpage as fourth officer, and Dr C. A. Edwards, who has taken Dr Lawson’s place as surgeon.
