New Zealand Times Office, Saturday afternoon. The Customs duties collected at the port of Wellington ,for the week ending Saturday amounted to L 4711 15s 2d. Beer duty, L 35 ss. Messrs George Thomas and Co. report produce prices;—“A considerable improvement is noticeable in prices and demand of fruit. Shipments have come forward in _ limited quantities, which naturally caused increased competition among local buyers; oranges _ are ruling from 6o ts 7s 6d, according to quality ; mandarins, 10s to 13s; lemons, 5s to 7s; pines, 15s to 19s per case ; apples, 6s to 8s; peanuts, 2Jd to 3d per lb ; dates, to d. Advices respecting Fiji shipments just arriyed at Auckland report exceedingly small consignments for Wellington, and we look forward to an increased scale of realisations for each description. In general grain and dairy produce lines there is not the slightest alteration. Flour, favorite brands command LlO 10s to LlO 15s per ton ; fowls’ wheat, 3s 9d to 3s lid ; bran, L 4 ; pollard, L 4 Ins ; prime short oats, 2s Id to 2s 2d ; Tartarian feed, Is lOd to la Hd; seed, 2a 5d to 2s 6d; oatmeal, L 10; feed barley, 2s 9d to 2s lOd; pearl, do, 19s ; maize, 3s lOd to 3s lid; potatoes, prime Derwents, L2 10s ; fair quality, L2 5s ; flukes, L 5 ; onions, prime, L 8; turnips, LI 15a ; carrots, Ll 15s ; peas, 3s 9d ; beans, 3s lOd ; cocksfoot grass seed, 4d ; rye grass, 3s 6d. We report a sale by auction of 126 prime Gisborne cheeses at 3£d in trade lots; hams and bacon, factory cure, 7d; farmers’ lots, 4d; fresh butter, prime, Is Id; salt do, 7d ; fair lots, from 3d to 5d ; honey, 3Jd to 5d ; eggs, fair demand at lOd per dozen ; fowls are active at 2s 9d ; ducks, 4s ; geese, 5s 6d ; and turkeys, 7s 6d per pair.’’ Messrs Edwards and Mcßeath - report:— The market has been much better during the week, the demand being principally for female servants in the country, We have placed a few men in country situations, and expect a better demand soon. There is still a good supply of.male and female servants of all daises both for town and country.
