(DOTTED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Invercargill, October 2,

A meeting of citizens was held to-night to consider what steps should be , taken in the matter of the assertion made by a correspondent to the “ Western Star,” re alleged maltreatment of patients -in the Southland Hospital. A strong feeling was expressed that no notice should be taken of an anonymous letter ; but ultimately it wag decided that the Government should be asked to appoint a Commission to inquire into the allegations, as the only means of restoring confidence in the institution.
