CARTERTON.

(ynou ooa own correspondent.) September 30.

The parade of entires, under the auspices of the W. and 8.0. P, and A. Society to-day, on their show grounds, was fairly attended, some 250 persons being present; but,.sqfaras exhibits went, was virtually a failure, there being only three draught horses—Gladstone, Pride of Canterbury, and Lord Nelson; and five thoroughbreds—Nanakia, Ponrere, Lillipee, Young Sator, and Young Camden, The falloff in the former class may be accounted for by the fact that the piercing of the Valley. by the railway has, in a large measure, reduced the demand for this stamp of herses to a minimum, while in the thoroughbred class some well-known horses in post years are travelling other districts this season, and others were not brought to the ground. Of the heavy trio, the first two are well ■ known in the .Valley, and Pike’s horse looked as well as ever he did. Ijord Nelson is a new importation; and attracted considerable attention. Pourere has exchanged travelling stations with The Premier, than which no better horso ever entered the district, as has been attested by his having taken the first prize at the Pastoral;Show hero for four years in succession,' - Lillipee, -a new importation, and Nanakia, an old favorite, appeared in good form ; and Yeung Camden is ;a |ikely .stamp of a good roadster. It is just a question whether, .with tho railroad being, pushed on from Ekitahuna to Masterton, it will be worth while forj the Society to hold these parade* in the future, as, with the ex-, -ceptioa of thoroughbred exhibits,; they, are virtually a fiasco; and it is a question for consideration whether the Society may not with fair reason. drop tho parades which have hitherto invariably proved a 1055.,, A man named John Nevin, an old offender, Was sent down, for a. mouth’s hard labor by Messrs Booth and Hamlin, J.P.’s, on Saturday, (for being drunk and disorderly on the Mainroad on Friday Evening. ■, ,i , i The Town Board election, on, Friday re--suited in Mr Campbell scoring 19 votes to Mr R, Dixon’s 18.
