To give you some idea of t(ie unoccupied lands in this locality, and the. resources that norae day will be developed, I. quote the following information respecting, the Crown and Native lands in the four E ist. Coast counties. The figures have b ea obtained from official sources, and may consequently be relied upon. For my own part, I should be inclined to estimate the area of Native oryned lands in this county at about 70,000 acres iu excess of the amount stated : i Crown lands. Native loads P cres. Acres. Tanrasga County ... 98,694 . 850,445 Wbakatane „ ... 272 763 1,395,276 Cook „ Wairoa „ - 293,605 206,316 Total ...1,010,931 3,298,134 Considerably over a million of seres l f . Crown lands, no railways, few bridges, aarA hardly any roads worthy of the name! Yes we are called on to pry our quota towards the cost of the “ Public Works' p ilicy ! ” _ Nothing fresh about go’d ; two prospectings parties have gone out, and there is a rumor that some rich black sand has, been found. This news as yet requires confirmation.
