THE NATIVE LAND COURT AT AUCKLAND.

(PROM A CORRESPONDENT.! Auckland, June 25,

The “ Herald,” alluding to the removal of the Native Lands Court Department to Wellington, says :—“ We believe it is contemplated to hold a public meeting on the subject. Reasons against the removal of the department are unanswerable, if public interest alone were to be consulted. The Auckland members are, we believe, quite willing to do all in their power to prevent the removal of the offices to Wellington, and in any case would make a fight on the subject ; but their hands will be materially strengthened by an expression of public opinion from Auckland. The Government had put £SOO on the Estimates to effect this removal, and when this item is before the House will probably be the most convenient time for discussing the whole subject. The Government will then have to do what they have not done hitherto—that is, to give some reason for the removal of the Court.”
