CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
The Wair&rapa South County has a debit balance of £250 Is lid.
On Wednesday Mr E. Knutson was married to Miss Mary Johnston, of Makakipawa. The joint football clubs intend holding a monster ball on Sept. 21st. The Premier has promised to pay the Wairarapa a visit, and will probably do so at an early date. The hockey match, Wellington v. W'airarapa, played on Saturday, resulted in a cake-walk for the city boys by 7 goals to 1. The home team were purely and simply outclassed in all branches and gave a very miserable display—in # fact, the play shown was much below schoolboy form.
The Greytown Hockey ladies, who are only this year's players, have made a name for themselves by defeating all clubs in the Wairarapa. Their win against the Masterton High School Girls was a meritorious one, the latter having never been beaten for the past three years. The Greytown ladies have every reason to be pleased at Mr Nicolson’s tuition.
Father Hays lectures in Greytown on Sept. 6th.
