ANGLO-FRENCH ENTENTE
PRESIDENT AND KING. RECIPROCAL TELEGRAMS. LONDON, August 17. President Loubet has sent the following message to King Edward: “The manifestation of reciprocal and cordial sympathy between the British and French navies has been, as your Majesty happily expressed it, a further token of the friendship of the two countries. lam anxious, on the teimination of the fetes, the memory of which will remain graven on the hearts of the officers and sailors, to tender your Majesty the thanks of the Republic.” King Edward replied as follows: — “Accept my sincerest thanks for your charming telegram. My country and myself were delighted to welcome your splendid squadron, and to give expression to our feelings of friendship for your navy and country.” Lord Lansdowne, British Minister of Foreign Affairs, in reply to a message from M. Rouvier, French Premier and Foreign Minister, expressing thanks for the reception accorded the fleet, says:— “The. reception of the squadron was a spontaneous manifestation of feelings deep-seated in the heart of the nation.”
