THE LOSS OF THE OHAU.
WRECKAGE FROM THE EAST COAST. The steamer Fanny, which arrived ficm Napier on Saturday evening, called in at Cape Turnagain on the way clown, an 1 shipped a quantity of wreckage which had been found in the vicinity, proving beyond all doubt the awful fate of the Union Company’s steamer Ohau. The wreckage to hand consists of a ship’s lifebelt with “Ohau, Dunedin,” printed thereon, an oar, four hatches, a couple of large bundles of broken timber, constituting door panels, laths, and other deck fittings, and a canvas-covered lid, painted white. This would most probably be the lid to the box that is usually found on the bridge for the purpose of keeping rhe ship’s binoculars in when at sea. Other wreckage has been picked up at Akitic and Castlepoint, but owing to the heavy swell the Fanny was unable to work those stations.
