The deputation subsequently sought the good oflices of the Minister of Railways in regard to tho same matter, and also expressed their satisfaction with tho reduction that had been made in tho charges for carriage of fruit. Beforo that alteration they had simply made a haro subsistence, and now (hey had been able to save enough money to attend the Fruit-growers' Conference at Wellington. The Hon Mr Cadman, in reply, said tho question was ono of £s. d. The Government wore oxpeetod to construct railways and go on with public work's, and yet borrow no moro money and not increase the taxation. If the deputation could solve that difficulty for them, tho Government would settle this question of tho Tcviot railway immediately.
