The secretary of the Wellington Racing Club received nearly <£7oo from people at a distance, for investment on the totalisator during Cup day. Four hundred pounds were sent for investment on the Cup race. We learn from Mr Kani Pero that Mahalci will not be taken to Australia to fulfil his engagements in the Newmarket Handicap and Australian Cup. Eothen, by Ascot—Sunshine, trained by Mr W. H. Keith, at Wanganui, dropped dead while doing exercise on Saturday moring last. Eothen was half-brothor to the steeplechaser, Waterburv. The Talcapuna Cup, one mile and a hal p , was won by Folly, with Ida second and Reynard third. Time, 2min 43sec. Dividend, <£l3 1 2s. The races were continued on Tuesday, when Reynard wen the Talcapuna Jockey Club’s Handicap, paying £4 17s. The Sharper won the Suburban Handicap, in Avhicn the dividend was .£5 2s, and the Hobson Handicap was won by Miss Nelson, who paid £'3 Bs. Magpie won the Steeplechase, paying £4 Bs. The Anniversary Handicap fell to Annabelle, who paid £5. Secretaries of racing clubs are irominded that illustrated cards and programmes can ho printed at the New Zealand Times Office at two hours’ notice. Customers will find it the cheapest printing office in tho Colony.
