A resident ot Waimangaroa, named Ewart, took action against Griffen, master ot WaimaDgaroa school, for an assault m severely beating his son. a pupil, at the school. After a lengthy hearing the master was fined £1 and costs, the magistrate considering that the punishment was unmerciful*
