The Gazette of the Ist instant contains the following notifications : Tr ; al of Maori prisoners.—The Order in Council, made under the authority of the Confiscated Lands Inquiry and Maori Prisoners' Trials Act, 1879, fixing Monday, the sth April instant, as the date for trial of natives at the Supreme Court, Wellington, has been varied, and the date of such trial has been now fixed for Monday, the 15th July next. New Zealand University. New and amended regulations, adopted by the Senate and approved in Council, are published. Railways.—Descriptions are given in detail of lands taken for branch line Lumsden to Mararoa (Lumsden section), Invercargill and Kingston railway, and branch line Edendale to Toitois (Wyndham section) Waitaki-Bluff Railway. Assessment Court.—The time for sitting of Coart, Mount Eden Highway District, has been extended to the 6th instant. . .

Despatch.—A despatch to the Colonial Secretary from Downing-street, covering copy of Act confirming validity of certain marriages of British subjects on board her Majesty's ships (42 and 42 Vict., cap. 29) is published, and also copy of such Act. A supplement to the Gazette published yes* terday contains notification under the Property Assessment Act, 1879 : The boundaries of the Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Nelson, Canterbury, Waitaki, Otago, and Southland Property Assessment Districts are defined, as also regulations and schedule of forms.
