ROAD TRANSPORT
RESTRICTIONS ON STOCK I (0.C.) GISBORNE, Tuesday Transport restrictions in the Gisborne district have been imposed on the carriage of .livestock in view of .the necessity of conserving petrol. Advice received yesterday by Mr. A. J. Stock, secretary of- the Transport Operators' Organisation, from the district oil fuel controller was as follows: —"Owing to the necessity to conserve motor spirits, I am advised that store stock should not be lorried unless there are special circumstances. Mr. F. R. Bould, stock inspector at Gisborne, will decide when farmers or stock agents consider special circumstances exist." Mr. Bould stated to-day that the special circumstances mentioned by the oil fuel controller would include those where there was a possibility of stock being unable to complete the journey on foot in good condition, and this would refer more to lambs than to big sheep, and also might include long distances over which there was little feed or water. Owners were asked to use the railways where possible. Fat stock are included in the restrictions, and the railway must bo used whero it runs parallel with a road transport route.
