CHILDREN'S THEATRE
SUCCESSFUL PLAY Adapted by Isabel Maud Cluett, Charles Kingsley's immortal tale for young and old, "The Water Babies," "Tom and the Water Folk" was presented last night in St. Andrew's Hall, Symonds Street, by members of the Children's Theatre. Mrs. Zoe BartleyBaxter was responsible for the production of the play, in which about 40 children, whose ages ranged from five years to 17, took part. The scenery in the under-the-sea portion was arranged by Mrs. S. Parkinson. Throughout the piece the settings and lighting effects were particularly good. A striking feature of the play was the confidence with which it was presented by the children. The acting of the principals deserves special mention, while a short poem, "Facts and Fancies," by one of the boys in the school scene was well done. Ballet items by pupils of the Mabel Johnson - Jock Hutchison School of Dancing lent variety to some of the under-water scenes. The short season will be concluded to-day with a matinee and an evening performance. Proceeds are to be donated to the All-Purposes Patriotic Fund.
