QUEEN CARNIVAL

RAISING PATRIOTIC FUNDS The opening day of a queen carnival to raise funds for patriotic purposes, held yesterday in Potter's Park, Balmoral, was attended by a large gathering, the ideal weather attracting a larger number than anticipated. All the stalls were well patronised. Supported by the Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. R, J. Mills, in his capacit.y of chairman of the Mount Eden Patriotic Committee, the carnival will continue to-day and to-night, when the successful queen will be crawned. All money raised will be used to give parting gifts to residents of the borough proceeding overseas and to help them on their return. The object originally set waa £SOO. but present indications are that this sum will be more than doubled. The four queens nominated are Miss Dorothy Everson (Sports and ness), Miss Merle Murray (Emergency Precautions Service), Miss leggy Oliver (Combined Services), and Miss Gloria Mulvihill (Mount Eden Borough). .
