CATHOLIC WOMEN
HELP FOR ORPHANAGES A wonderful response to the bi-annual garment appeal organised by members ol' the Catholic Women's League was made yesterday, when several hundred articles of clothing were sent in by members of the 14 country branches of the league, members of the league's city sewing circle, and interested friends. The president of the league, Mrs. M. Pilling, said yesterday that it was astonishing that so much had been contributed considering the amount of patriotic work being done by town and country members. All garments received would be given to the orphanages and to the poor and needy in the city and country districts. Donations of money were also received to purchase comforts for patients at the Leper Station. Many beautil'ully-made patchwork quilts and rugs were seen on the tables arranged in the league rooms, also knitted sets for babies, pyjamas and shirts for small boys, and woollen and cotton frocks for girls. In addition to these new goods there were many reconditioned garments, the making of which had taken many hours of work.
