DEATH AT 94 YEARS

FORMER PRISON MATRON Formerly prison matron at Auckland, Wellington and Dunedjn, Miss Mary jane Davies McLevie has died in Auckland, aged 94. Miss McLevie was born in Wrexham, Wales, and ".vas matron of the Wrexham Infirmary before com' ing to New Zealand in 1879 in the ship Auckland, of which blio was also matron. Miss McLevie retired in 1905, when - superintending matron, and had lived alone at 26 Hastings Parade, Devonport, from 1910 until earlier this year. She was a keen student of history and current affairs, notably politics. As a young woman she was interested in amateur theatricals. Miss McLevie's only relative in the North Island is the Rev. E. M. McLevie, of Wellington, a nephew.
