AUCKLANDERS OVERSEAS Cabled advice has been received by . Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Wells, of Cambridge, that their son, Flight-lieut-enant E. P. Wells, D.F.C., and bar, has been promoted ,to the rank of squadron-leader. Promotion to the rank of pilot-officer has been gained by Leading-Aircraft-man V. Jacobs, according to cabled advice received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Jacobs, of 1 Jesmond Terrace, Mount Albert. Pilot-Officer Jacobs entered training at Levin in November of last year, and left for Canada in the following February. After a period there, ha was transferred to England, where he was drafted to a newly-formed fighter squadron. Educated at Mount Albert Grammar School, Pilot-Officer Jacobs was engaged in the teaching profession, and before he enlisted was teaching at Ngaruawahk. Lieutenant E. H. Halstead, official archivist to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Middle East, f has been promoted to the rank of cap-, tain, according to advice received % V his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Halstead, of 19 Hanui Road, Remuera. Captain Halstead, who left New Zealand with the second echelon, was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and the Auckland University College, where he gained his Master qf Arts and Bachelor of Commerce degrees. Prior to - enlisting, lie was on the teaching staff of the Seddon Memorial Technical College. He is a former president of the Auckland University .College Students' Association, ■ • -
