Preliminary returns of railway revenue and expenditure for the second four-weekly period of the current financial year indicate an increase in the net revenue of approximately £28,48-3, compared with the figure for the corresponding period last year, said the acting-Minister of Railways, the Hon. \Y. Nash. to-dav.

"The approximate gross revenue from 'April 27 to May 21 amounted to £914,322, against * £879,518 for the second period last year—an increase of £34,504," said the Minister, "and the expenditure (£7.30.997) this year was only £'ool9 in excess of last year's second period disbursements. "The net revenue for the second poriod, 1941 and 1910 respectively, was £163,325 (tentative) and £134,840 — an increase this year of £28,485. This satisfactory result represents the recovery of practically one-half of the decrease (£57,039) which marked the net revenue for the first four-weekly period of this year, in comparison with that of the first period of 1940. "The returns for the eight weeks from April 1 to May 21, disclose a gross revenue of approximately £1.743.664, compared with £1.781,481 received during the April-May periods of 19 Iff—a decline of £37,817. Against this, however. there has been a reduction of £9203 in expenditure. The approximate net revenue for this year's first and second periods amounted to £28,876. which was £28,5-34 less than the net revenue for the relative eight weeks of 1910," concluded Mr. Nash,
