The statement that tho Auckland Teachers' Training College had fostered the propagation of monarch butterflies and deplored their wanton destruction was contained in a report by the principal, Mr. D. M. Rao, to the Auckland Education Board yesterday. At a previous meeting tho board received a letter from Mr. T. T. Skoates, the well-known cultivator of tho monarch butterfly, alleging that a broadcast had been made to schoolchildren on tho methods of catching, killing and mounting those butterflies. Mr. Rao said no such broadcast had ever been made from the college, which grew quantities of the swan plant to encourage the propagation of the species.
