SLY GROG FROM CARS

ACCUSED SENT TO GAOL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday Sly-grog selling from care parked in a city street at night resulted in the imposition of a substantial fine and prison sentence upon Gustavus Stephen Parsons, aged 26, by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Police Court to-day. Parsons pleaded guilty to two charges of soiling liquor without a licence. On one charge he was sentenced to a month's hard labour and on the other he was fined £SO. The police said it had been noticed that two cars were being parked in Boulcott Street, and on the night of .May 1(5 police watchers saw a taxi draw alongside one. and parcels being transferred, and on another occasion four taxis stopped alongside, parcels being transferred to each. A constable purtwo bottles of beer from defendant. Liquor seized by the police consisted of 174 bottles of beer and 10 of wine. Arthur Francis Phillpot, aged 17, who the police said was assisting Parsons, was fined £2 on each of two charges concerning the unlicensed sale of liquor.
