£1,000,000 CAMPAIGN
ORGANISER APPOINTED ■ r - SCOPE OF THE APPEAL [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON,, Friday The secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Mr. G. A. Havden, announced to-day that Mr. J. Abel, of Wellington, had been appointed honorary organiser of the Dominion-wide campaign by Provincial Patriotic Councils to raise £1.000.000. He siid Mr. Abel bad offered his services in this capacity and they had been accepted with appreciation. The campaign has begun with an appeal for funds for the relief of victims of German air raids on London and will continue for the purpose of raising funds to give assistance when required to the United Kingdom and the British Empire overseas, and to provide comforts for New Zealand troops overseas and within New Zealand, as well as to enable provision- to be made for the rehabilitation of - men and assistance to their dependants. Mr. Hayden referred to the success Mr. Abel had achieved as honorary organiser of the appeal conducted by I the Joint Council of the Order of St. ! John and the Bed Cross Society for j funds for the sick, wounded and disI tressed. More than £580,000 had been | raised by this campaign.
