WOMEN POLICE
MANY CITY. APPLICANTS
EXCELLENT TYPES AVAILABLE Numerous applications were received yesterday by the Superintendent of Police at Auckland, Mr. J. Cummings, from women desirous oi: joining the New Zealand Police Force. Before midday no fewer than 30 had made personal calls at the central station in O'Rorke Street, City. Some applicants had excellent qualifications for the work.
No fixed number of women police in Auckland has yet been decided upon and up to the present there is no time limit in which intending; recruits may present themselves. The form they will have to fill includes such questions of whether they have a knowledge of shorthand and typewriting, if they possess professional qualifications or have undergone training; which might be of use to them as policewomen. Their age must be between 2o and 40 and one stipulation is that they must be either unmarried or widowed.
