TASMAN CROSSING
FLYING-BOAT FROM SYDNEY 14 PASSENGERS CARRIED Carrying a heavy load of freight and mail, and also a full list of 14 passengers, the Tasman Empire Airways flying-boat Awarua arrived from Sydney at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The flight, which occupied 8h 50m, was uneventful, light winds and favourable weather being experienced ' throughout the journey.
The passengers were Mrs. P. E. E. Buckingham, Mrs. R. Sergent, Mrs. F. A. Dalzell, Mrs. S. S. Hutchinson, Mrs. A. Walker, Mrs. M. E. M. Hunter and Messrs. H. Buckingham, A. Sinun, H. Sergent, J. N. Jackson. J. Jolly, H. B. G. Walker, R. S. Brittain and V. E. Sutherland. Mr. Buckingham, of the De Havilland Aircraft Company, Wellington, returned after consultations with officers of the Australian branch of the firm, while Mr. Sergent, an aviation engineer formerly attached to the staff of Imperial Airways in India, is to be stationed at the Tasman air base at Auckland. The Awarua brought about 2131b. of freight and over 3201b. of air mail. The flying-boat was commanded by Captain J. W. Burgess.
