STRONGROOM FORCED
THIEVES USE EXPLOSIVE TRAINING COLLEGE BURGLAR SPORTS TROPHIES DESTROYED Thieves entered the buildings of the Auckland Teachers' Training College, Epsom, in the early hours of yesterday morning. Using an explosive with what was described as "devastating effect," the intruders forced, the strong room in the main and took about £2, leaving a trail of damage.
Entrance to the building was apparently gained by forcing a back window. In the main office the force of the explosion resulted in the 6ft. door of the strongroom being blown off and, in addition to furniture being wrecked, silver cups and other sports trophies which had been placed' in the strongroom for safe keeping were destroyed. Sheaves of records and other documents were scattered about the room, but all were recovered yesterday. About a month ago the rooms in the college were thoroughly searched by thieves without result and, when the students' activities were transferred to the Mount Albert School during the influenza epidemic, their new headquarters were the scene of another burglary. On this occasion there was some loss and, as a result, little of value has since been left overnight at the college.
