VICTORIA LEAGUE
AFTERNOON RECEPTION WELCOME TO MEMBERS An afternoon reception to enable the members to meet Mrs. W. Stuart, of Tonga, and to welcome back from abroad Mrs. F. H. Giflord and Miss Joan Gifford, was given by the Victoria League in the league rooms yesterday. The guests and members were received bv the league chairman, Mrs. L. S. Rickerby, assisted by Mrs. C. 11. Keeble and Miss F. Murray, of the executive.
Mrs. Stuart, who is the wife of the Chief Justice of Tonga, will spend the summer months in New Zealand. She explained, in a brief address, that she had been a member of tho executive of the Victoria League in Capetown, South Africa, and that her mother-in-law, the late Mr. K. 11. 11. Stuart, had been one of the founders of the league movement, . Mrs. Gifford, who with her daughter, returned recently from a visit to England, gave a brief description of London under war conditions. An eniovable programme was contributed to by Mrs. Reginald Reed, who played pianoforte solos and also acted as accompanist, Miss T. Flynn and .Miss Joan Gentles, who sang duets, and Miss Edna de Marr, who recited. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. C. R. Keeble, _^ 1S - F G. Alfrev. Misses I', and C. Murray, Miss "Mavis McCullough, Miss Peggi Cruickshank and Miss Lome de Boissiere.
