The annual flower show of the garden circle of the Pioneer Club was opened yesterday afternoon by Her Excellency Viscountess Gnhvay, who is keenly interested in gardening. So much interest, was displayed in the exhibits that long before the time of tho official opening there was little available space left over in the largo room where a large number of people had gathered.
Her Excellency was welcomed by tho president of the club. Miss Amy Kane, after which she addressed those present. Miss M. Cooper, president of the garden circle, also Her Excellency remarked that this time of the year was a most inspiring time t<3 hold a flower show, as all plant life was coming to its zenith and garden lovers were full of eagerness to see what was coming out next. Lady Gahvay also discussed the arrangement of gardens and flowers.
Among the exhibits wero somo bog primulas sent by Airs. Knox Gilmer, who is one of New Zealand's most ardent horticulturists.
Another pleasant function that took place yesterday in Wellington was the international party given by the World Fellowship Committee of tho Y.W.C.A. Among the many guests present were the board of directors, the International Club and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Tho Blue Triangle Hall had been specially decorated for the party, which took the form of an At Home given as part of the World Fellowship Week, which was observed in 69 countries throughout the world. The guests included people of French, Australian, Maori. Czecho-Slovakian, Hungarian and German nationality. They were received by Lady Pomare and Miss L. Bridgman, general secretary of the Y.W.C.A. A varied programme was presented and Mr. D. Hall gave an address on the early history of New Zealand.
