Kitson, managed to throw himself:, clear. The machine, which weighs five tons, was being used to strip the quarry face, and, slipping to the edge,. the machine went over, striking the face of tho rock before landing. The bucket-arms wore broken off and the chassis of the machine was broken in several places. The tread mechanism was damaged, so that the machine cannot be moved, but will probably have to be dismantled where it lies. The machine is, as far as is known,'the only ctie of its typo in New Zealand, so that difficulty in replacing the broken parts is expected.
