ROYALTY'S INTEREST
MERCANTILE MARINE DOMINION LINER VISITED INFORMAL TALKS WITH CREW The interest taken by the King and Queen in the officers and men ofithe British mercantile marine, particularly during the war, was demonstrated at one of the London docks recently; Shortly before a liner engaged in the New Zealand trade; put to sea, the King and Queen paid a surprise and informal visit to the vessel. The liner is at present in New Zealand waters. The King and Queen boarded the. Royal barge up the Thames, and had lunch at the docks. As they walked along the dock side to the New Zealand vessel, Their Majesties were cheered by the dock workers. They boarded the vessel and were introduced to the captain. Then, for about 10-minutes the King and Qrieen walked about the liner conversing with the officers and men.
Their Majesties were again cheered as they left the vessel. From it they went to another vessel —a grain ship—which had just arrived in the dock from overseas. There was another surprise and informal inspection.
