VIENNESE GIRL
RESIDENCE IN DOMINION ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND TO MARRY ALPINE GUIDE A Vienna girl. Miss Hedwig Buino, arrived by the Monterey from Sydney yesterday to be married to the chief guide at the Fox Glacier, Mr. Franz Barta. According to her fiance, she said, she was coming to "the most wonderful country in the world." Loss than a year ago Miss Buine could not speak a word of English. She went to England for seven months and now can converse as well as if she had been speaking English* all her life. She did not go to school. "Everybody in England speaks English," she said, "and I just began to speak it with them." Miss Bnme said that never in her life had she imagined there could be so many kindly people as she had met in England and on the voyage out to New Zealand. The English people, the Australians and the New Zealanders she had mot had done everything they could to help her. She had not known in Europe that there could be so much compassion and,, svmpathv. M iss Bume said Mr. Barta had been at the Fox Glacier for only the last season. They had met while mountaineering and bad done much climbing together in the Swiss and Austrian Alps, so that she was looking forward to meeting New Zealand's mountains, of whose beauty she had heard all her life. Mr. Barta met Miss Bume at the wharf yesterday and later they left for the south. They will be married at the Christohureh registry office on Wednesday and will live at the Fox Glacier.
