WHIMSICAL STORIES
HAT THAT' GREW FRUIT Ifc is easy enough—or' is it? —to bo whimsical about the birds and Honors, but it takes a writer of John Pudncy's calibro to extend his whimsy to such unlikely things as elephants and outmoded railway locomotives. Tho elephant in tho case is Undo Arthur, Avho spent somo days eating buns in an otherwise respectable suburban conservatory. Tho locomotive is one for which a tender-hearted young girl saved up eight half-crowns, in order that it might bo saved from tho scrap-heap, and then sold it to a museum for tho handsome sum of £750. Best of all is the story of Edna, who through sheer virtue was able to grow fruit in her hat and make a pretty penny out of it too. If you consider this at all unlikely, as well you may, read Mr. Pudney for yourself and he will quickly convince yo/i that nothing is impossible. "Undo Arthur and Other Stories," by John Pudney.
