EARLY AMERICA
SUSPENSE AND THRILLS "The Forbidden Ground." by Neil FT. Swanson, is closely founded on American colonial history and the early fur trade. It is more economically and also more vividly written than most of its kind, although the romantic style does not always consort happily with the savagery of some of tho episodes —an adventurous story, lo\c affairs alternating with perils from river, bullet and scalping knife. Baril MacGregor falls in love with the seductive and reckless Mernlv, daughter of a hated fur-trade';. 'llion lio rescues a "rebel" girl from Indians who are ill-treating her under the indifferent eyes of garrison officers and their ladies; this is unpleasant reading for British people. So he flies and becomes a kind of brigand. His e.wapades in the backwoods provide pl-nty of thrills and we are kept in suspense guessing which of his lady loves has his heart.
"The Forbidden Ground." by Neil H. Swan son (Harrtip).
