WOMEN'S DIVISION
AUCKLAND MEETING ELECTION OF OFFICERS The annual meeting of the Auckland branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held yesterday. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs. R,i S. Judson; secretary, Mrs. A. Appleby; assistant secretary, Mrs. Fleming; vice-presidents, Mrs. Marsh, Mrs. Williamson and Miss Aiibin.
A motion was carried placing on record the branch's appreciation of the services over some years of the retiring president, Mx*s. J. T. F. Mitchell.
PROVINCIAL BRANCHES Wellsford. —A meeting convened by Mrs. Coates, president of the Hoteo North branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, was held recently at Wellsford. Many members were present from the Hoteo North and Waiteitei branches. The organiser of the Waitemata provincial executive, Mrs. Osbaldiston, outlined the aims and objects of the organisation, and Mrs. Henderson gave helpful suggestions. A branch was formed, and the following officers were elected: —President, Mrs. J. Ward; vice-presidents, Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Snowden; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. G. H. Worker; committee, Mr 3. Palmer and Mrs. J. Davies. Mrs Osbaldiston thanked Mrs. Coates and Mrs. Stevenson, who acted as secretary for the meeting, for their help, also the members of the branches present. Tauhei. —A social evening and dance was held recently to celebrate ■ the fourth birthday of the branch, many guests being present. A play was presented by members, and items were given by' Miss Holland, Mr. R. Young and Mr. Case. Mr. J. 13. Harris was in charge of the programme. Te Awamutu. —More than .'3OO people were present at the 10th birthday celebrations of the branch, and many messages were received from neighbouring organisations and absent members. Items were given by Mrs. S. Nicholson, Mrs. Mear, Mrs. Hooper, Mrs. Pepperell, Mrs. Cullcn, Miss Pat Cottle, Miss Smallfield, M.iss North, Mr. Sanderson, Pat Bridge, Joan Carseldiue, Elaine North and Valerie Richardson. Bouquets were presented to the president, Mrs. Neill, and the secretary, Mrs. Patterson. The president of the South Auckland provincial council, Mrs. Clements, lit the candles on the three-tier birthday cake.
Hoteo North. —The entertainment programme at the monthly meeting of the branch consisted of community singing, and poi dances were 'demonstrated by Miss J can Leaf. The club prize was won by Mrs. Snowden. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Snowden and Mrs. Worker. Pukckawa. —An account of the matters discussed at the last conference of the Waitemata Provincial Executive was given by the president, Mrs. H. D. Orr, at the monthly meeting. Mrs. Elwin demonstrated papier matilic work. Results of the competition* were:— Knitting: Mrs. H. D. Orr. 1 and 2. Best bloom: Mrs. H. D. Orr, 1. Bowl of asters: Mrs. Eyre, 1; Mrs. Whitehead, 2. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Knight, Mrs. Ramsey and Miss Sineed. Harrisville. —Several new members were welcomed at the monthly meeting, at which Mrs. N. F. Collins presided. Mrs. M. J. Orr described the proposed centennial memorial which, it is hoped, will'bo erected if Auckland, and Miss I. Smeed gave a talk and demonstration of home nursing. Competition results were: Blackberry jelly: Mrs. Davies, 1; Mrs. N. F. Collins, 2. Basket of flowers: Mrs. N. Jubb, sen., 1; Mrs. N. J. Graham, 2.
