KARITANE HOSPITAL WORK GRANT RESTORED TO £IOOO MONTH'S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED A letter received from the executive of the Dominion council of the Plunket Society, read at yesterday morning's meeting of the Auckland branch of the society, stated that the Government grant to the Karitane Hospital had been restored to £IOOO for the year completed on March 31. Donations of £5 and £5 5s to the funds of the hospital were acknowledged from the Dargaville and Takapuna committees, respectively. . The charge nurse, Miss Chapman, read the report of the. work carried out from headquarters. A busy month :iad been experienced. In the prenatal department 57 expectant mothers jiad been seen for the first time, 289 return visits had been paid to the department, and 222 expectant mothers were under supervision. In the post-natal department, 237 new baby cases had been seen, 1154 visits had been paid to homes and 11,761 mothers and babies had visited the various office.'!. Donations of Fruit
Miss Lusk, matron of the Truby King Karitane Hospital, reported that 14 mothers and 23 babies had been admitted in March. Special thanks were clue to Mrs. Izard, Mrs. Bentley Kemp snd Mrs. Roy Thompson, who had nade generous donations of fruit to the hospital. Certain urgent repairs and replacements had been made at the hospital, but the committee was faced in the immediate future with still farther replacing of household effects. The president, Mrs. J. C. Allan, will attend a meeting of the Dominion council to be held in Wellington on April 27 and 28.
The resignation of Mrs. H. It. Ivirker from the committee was received with regret. It was decided to place on record the deep appreciation of the committee of the fine work done by Mrs. Kirker both as a member of the committee and of the executive during the 15 years she has been associated with the society. Mrs. Raymond Sheath was appointed a member of the committee.
Founder's Day It was decided to celebrate Founder's Day with a luncheon. As a result of the street appeal the sum of approximately £846 was added to the funds of the society. Arrangements were made for the society's stall on "Poppy Day." There were present:—Mrs. T. T. Woodhead, Mrs. If. T. Russell, Mrs. A. J. Beck, Mrs. E. J. Wilkinson, Mrs. L. C. H. Fowler, Mrs. L. Goodwin (Ellerslie), Mrs. H. H. Edwards (Devonport), Mrs. A Campbell (Northeote), Mrs. F. Chambers (Birkenhead), Mrs. C. E. Turner (Otahuhu).
