WAIKATO RACES

SATURDAY'S EVENTS THE STOREY MEMORIAL SCOTLAND WELL FANCIED PEOSI'ECTS IN THE SPRINT BY ARCIIF.U Excellent acceptances have been received for the. first day of the Waikato Racing Club's Summer Meeting, which opens at Te Ha pa on Saturday, and fino weather is all that should bo required to ensure a very successful gathering. The betting will be under the win and place system and tho first race is timed to start at 12 o'clock noon. A special train will leave Auckland on both days at 7.45 a.m. and depart from the racecourse on return at 6.17 p.m. An additional train will leave Auckland on tho first day at 8.35 a.m. and leave on return at 6.12 p.m. As a result of his recovery of winning form in the Rotorua Cup last week, Scotland is likely to bo one of the favourites for the Storey Memorial Handicap, the chief event, which has drawn a good field. Scotland will have a more difficult task on this occasion, but he is still in a favourable position in tho weights and may bo even better than ho was last Saturday, as lie has been coming on with each gallop. Round Up should bo capable of a good effort, and the same applies to Clieval de Volee, whose chance would be more fancied if rain came to soften tho track. King Re.y has no recent form and a better prospect may bo tho improving and consistent Lady Montana, who performed well at the Wellington Cup meeting at Trentham last month. Although ho failed at his next attempt, Malagigi's second in the Takapuna Cup suggested that ho was likely to make an. early return to the winning list and ho will disappoint if he fails to run prominently. Jonathan, who has been working pleasingly, and Gay Rose aro another likely pair, although the latter seems to require the going soft to show her best. Others who may add interest to the contest aro Jack Tar, Black Musk and Bay Wind. It should bo a good betting race, with solid support for Scotland, Malagigi, Lady Montana and Jonathan. • ■ ■ >

Sonio fine sprinters appear in the President's Handicap and the issue appears very opens Llangollen, Suleiman, Royal Bachelor and Bachelor King all have recent winning form and Farland has .a great record on the course. Suleiman may be more advanced than when he won at his first start of the season and he should take a lot of beating. Royal Bachelor and Bachelor King should run well under any conditions, but a soft track would enhance their prospects. Tosh is back to winning form and others who may have to be reckoned with arc To Monowai, Lady Mcath, Royal Vaals and Brazilian. Some who may command support are Suleiman, Bachelor King, Farland and Llangollen. For his win at Rotorua on Monday Hailo Boy has incurred a rehandicap of 31b. for the Beerescourt Hack Handicap, making his weight 8.5. Agog should he deleted from the, list of acceptors for the Frankton Hurdles.

TE RAPA EXERCISES ; lIUNTO DISPLAYS PACE CAPPY GOES SOLID ROUND ORWERE PACED BY CALORIE [r>Y TELEGRAPH —OWN" CORRESPONDENT! HAMILTON', Tuesday The course proper, 54ft. out from tho rails, provided good going at To Rapa this morning. The ' programme, in spite of tho approach of the Waikato meeting, was a restricted one, because of the number of horses racing at Rotorua yesterday. A round by Cappy and a smart halfmile by Hunto were the best gallops of the morning. Coronation, one of F. W. Davis' visiting team, ran freely over a round, the final half-mile taking 56 2-ss. Ho looks in good order. De Friend (W. Thomson), who will probably have his next start at To Aroha, ran once round in 2.6 2-5, his last half-mile occupying 55 3-ss. Midland (Winder) and Vitement (Hain) were associated over five furlongs in 1.5 2-ss. Midland may make amends at the Waikato meeting for recent disappointments.

Tlio two-year-old Hunto (Hain) finished two lengths in front of Bronze Step (Watson) and Meadow (Winder) in 52 2-ss. Hunto. will bear watching.

Du Maimer (Long) accounted for Lornacro (McLaughlin) over five furlongs run in 1.4 4-5. Stansted (W. Thomson) and Awhiowhio (R. E. Thomson) finished practically on terms over six furlongs in 1.25 3-5. Both appear to be making progress. Windora (Elisor) proved too speedy for Diversity (Jones) over half a milo in 535.

Cappy (Brown) negotiated a round in 2.5 1-5, running his initial five furlongs in 1.8 and the six furlongs in 1.22 2-5. He accomplished his work freely. Sir Lysander (Brown) covered five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. lie should make amends for the ill-luck that attended him at Matamata..

Orwere (McLaughlin) and Calorie (Jones), after running the first quarter in 24 3-ss, completed six furlongs in 1.17 3-5. Although Calorie got tlie better of the jump-out, Orwore took her measure.

Cynical .Smile (Winder) and Inness Lad (Mtiir) were companions over four 'hurdles, giving a fast and clever display. Cynical Smile is making headway, while Inness Lad,, who recently returned after a spell, has lost none of his jumping ability. Forest Lake (Turvoy) gave , a dashing exhibition over the same obstacles.
