UENUKU SHOWS SPEED LADY KELLER IMPRESSES BILL B. PACES RESOLUTELY BY ABAYDOS A smart hall-mile in 1.5 3-5 by Uonuku was the fastest of several good sprints at Epsom yesterday. The dirt track was in good order, although a still breeze and dust were against the hoises, Other interesting trials were by Laminate and Lady Keller, 1.6, Star Pronto and Fernbrook Lass, 1.7, Bill 8., 1.7 3-5, Peter Smith, 1.8, and Lucky Love. 1.8 3-5. The trotters Great Surprise, Bingen Sun, Reception and Nelson Chief went well. The two-year-old Highland Scott impressed in a useful mile. Uonuku (_R. A. McMillan) held Luminate (L. J. Mahoney) safe at the end of a mile and, a-quarter in 2.55 3-5. Uonuku pulled early, but sprinted homo with spirit. He ran on for another six furlongs at about a 2.20 rate, but tired at the end.. Luminate, who has not been up long, did well in going 2.5(3. Lady Keller (M. Stewart) ran a mile and a-quarter in 2.58. She took 40s to reach the quarter-mile, and after passing the six furlongs in 1.52 sprinted home. Lady Keller is an improved novice. Bill B. (A. Murdock) was given two miles free-legged, the last seven furlongs in 1.58. Excepting for boring on the bends. Bill 8., who is a good stayer, paced resolutely. TROTTERS GO SOLIDLY NELSON CHIEF STAYS ON All Bingen (J. A. Gerrard), Nelson Chief (E. Gadsby) and Bingen Sun (AY. Head) went as named from the two miles, but they were in line at the mile in 2.33, with All Bingen a shade in front at the mi.,e and a-half in 3.45. Nelson Chief tool: charge at the top and shaded Bingen Sun in 4.56, with All Bingen 60 yards away. Nelson Chief gave a faultless display and was staying on. He may show improvement to-day. Bingen Sun made one mistake, but finished resolutely, and isi improving with racing. All Bingen gave a creditable showing most of the journey. _ Air Pilot (F. Scrimgeour) and Frontier Boy (H. Garnett) kept together throughout two miles, the last six furlongs at a 2.30 rate. Air Pilot should be all the better for racing. Reception (W. J. Wheeler) was not hurried over the first mile in 2.38, but increased speed to run the next one in 2.24, each half at an even rate. She took no harm from two races last Saturday, but a penalty af 60 yards will make her task more difficult.

Win Huon (H. Billington) was not required to go hotter than a 2.40 rate. The aged trotter lias neVer looked better.

Great Surprise (L. Laver) came homo the last half-milo of a mile and a-lialf easily in 1.12 A penalty of 72 yards over two miles will make • his task difficult.

Dyer), going very smoothly, ran to the mile and a-lialf in 3.34, finishing solidly to return 4.42 for two miles. He looks improved for his raco in the Otahuhu Handicap. Peter Smith (jE. It. Smith) was not hurried in the early part of two miles, but ran the last mile and a-quarter in 2.54. He is carrying a good deal of condition. His next race may be the Wanganui Cup next month. Mandalay (D. 0. Jones) was given a strong two milps unhoppled and displayed * keenness Vhen stepping the last six furlongs at a 2.30 rate. She was given starting practice .afterwards and went away smartly each time Fernbrook Las is (L. Laver) worked an easy two liiiles at a 2.30 rate, sprinting the last; half-mile in 1.7. She has never looked better and is staying on in improved stylo. >- Although hoppled, Red Frontier (T. L. Nicholson) was not after time while going two miles. He is in great heart and has previously won at the distance at Epsom. Auhimn Ln ((J. H. Stubbs) trotted the first mile and a-half of two miles boldly in 3.45, but required 5.5 for the journey.

YOUNG HOItSES IN ACTION NOW THEN GOES SMOOTHLY Tho two-year-old Now Then (G. T. Mitchell) was accompanied over two miles by Tangatu (T. Smalley) and sprinted the last furlong and a-half. Now Then is a well-mannered colt. Highland Scott (L. Wells) after a light six furlongs, covered a mile in 2.22, both halves in 1.11. Highland Scott, who will be driven in the Great Northern Trotting Stakes by J. Bryce, jun., has made many friends since coming to Epsom. Grand Fashion (A. Brown) moved nicely while goin<i an easy mile. He is a good type of two-year-okl. Ringtruo (W. Fleming) ran the last mile of two laps in 2.23, coming home the last half in 1.10. The half-sister to Free Advice is making progress. Auto Bingen (G. H. Phipps), on the sand, went solidly for a mile and ahalf. The race on Saturday appears to have sharpened the sturdy three-year-old and he may go well to-day. >. . Other sound eitorts on the" sand wore registered by Gold Circle, Vanora, Gay Moko, Marcus, Aurumar, Audrey's Last, Sir Frank, Moira Bingen, Northern Smile and Double Great. Adversity, who changed hands on Monday, was ono of M. Stewart's team doing light work.; The A 1 Mack gelding, who was narrowly beaten in the Railway Handicap, is in splendid racing condition and is likely to show a quick return. OHINEMIRI MEETING NEXT MONTH'S PROGRAMME An attractive programme has been drawn up for tlic - Ohinomuj-i Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting at i'noroa on March. 17 and IS, and it is likely to make a strong appeal to owners. Tlio chief j'aco will be the Ohinemuri Cup. of £7OO, one mile and three furlongs, and on the second day will'be the Shaw Handicap, of £450, nine, furlongs, and the Hikutaia Hfjck Cup, of £4OO, nine furlongs. Another feature of the programme, details of which appear elsewhere in this issue, is that there will he a hurdle race and a steeplechase each day.
