OPUNAKE CUP RED SAND AN ACCEPTOR [BY TELEGRAFH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] NEW PLYMOUTH, Monday Red Sand, 7.4, was omitted from the telegraphed list of acceptances for the Opunako Cup, which is to bo run at the Opunako Racing Club's meeting on Saturday. TURF JOTTINGS TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Gay Parade, who disappointed at Trontham, has been put aside for a three months' spell. Night Hawk has been lame with splint troublo since arriving homo at Riccarton from tho North Island. Defaulter has been given the run of a paddock since the Wellington meeting, but he will bo brought back to the tracks in a few days to prepare him for his trip to Sydney. Redolent has been recommissioned by S. Barr and it is hoped to have him ready for the steeplechasing season. Waitaka has also been brought in again and is to be tried as a hurdler. Endorsement, a hot favourite, tried to win tho Juvenile Handicap at Pahiat.ua all tho way, but her weight told when Kehua, Deflation and Counter issued challenges and Counter forced his way to tho front. Rowana, with nine seconds and four thirds to her credit, ran unplaced when made favourito for tho Malcuri Handicap at Pahiatua on Friday, but she made amends when she won the Rodney Handicap, seven furlongs, on Saturday. The four-figuro purchase Coronation has revealed great speed in his work, but until he cleared away from his field in tho Champion Hack Handicap .it Pahiatua on Saturday, he had been a consistent failure in races. He is the three-year-old son of Limond from Jewel of Asia, by Grosvenor. E. S. Jennings, son of J. W. Jennings, who was severely injured two months ago in Southland, is likely to be an inmate of tho Invercargill hospital for several months longer. In addition to a double fracture of the pelvis, ho is also suffering from a fractured ankle and his progress lias been very slow.
After Flammarion had set a fast paco in the Mangahao Handicap, the principal raco at Pahiatua on Saturday, tho only one who ran on well was Helen Ford. This Cape Horn mare had not won since tho New Year meeting of 1938 at Tauherenikau, when sho beat Luoullus Lad, who also was runner-up on Saturday.
Edible, who dead - heated with Allunga for first in tho Anniversary Handicap at Randwick yesterday, is a full-brother to Tout lo Monde and Icing. He was bought as a yearling by Mr. E. Moss, Sydney, for 1100 guineas, but proved a very disappointing performer. Ho is now raced by Messrs. 11. Franks and J. Walsh, for whom ho won two races at the end of last season.
Hunter's Evo was very solidly supported to win the Tararua Handicap at Paliiatua, but the "VVoodville-trained Jeanne, who came fast on the outside, heat tho favourite by a short head. Hunter's Eve has been very consistent, but her effective range is short. Jeanne, a three-year-old filly by Lackliam from Jean Ladosio, is a sister to Arajean and half-sister to Arrow Lad and Minstrel Lad,
