COMMENT ON FORM

BRONZE MOTH FAILS " SPRINT TO ROYAL BACHELOR BRITISH BANNER JUST WINS Tho four-year-old Bronwen ran right lip to the good form she displayed ill running second in tho Trial Stakes on the first day to score attractively in the Moana Handicap, for which she was third in demand to Bronze Moth and Odtaa. Bronwen was close behind the pacemaker, Royal Message, entering tho straight and she was a good winner over tho last lialf-furlong. She is the first of the stock of the unraccd Cambria Park to score. Cambria. Park is a bay liorso by Kilbroney from I act, by Obligado from Tito, by Soult, and ho is named after tho property whore ho was bred. Royal Message, who throw her rider before tho start, hung on for second after attempting to lead all the way and it was her best effort to date. Beeswing came from a long way back for third, and First Gold Money, who drew No. 19 at the barrier, went a good raco for fourth. Rival was running on strongly in fifth position and Odtaa weakened to sixth after being third at the turn. Bronze Moth also faded after being prominent early. A Smooth Performance After tailing the field until about three and a-half furlongs from home, the fourth fancy Pyrenees made a sharp run that took him to the front at tho turn in tho Waiwera Hurdles and he went on to score attractively. It was a smooth perormanco and he was very confidently ridden by R. E. Thompson, who never appeared anxious. Pyrenees is a half-brother to tho good jumpers Erie and Brushwood, and, like the other members of his family, ho shines in soft going. He should bo a possibility for tho Great Northerns. Rozel attempted to win all tho way and she beat the rest as easily as the winner beat her. Rozel was inclined to run down her fences early, but improved as sho went on. Bryco Street made a creditable showing and Baldric was in a winning position when ho fell a little over three furlongs from home. Hopalong fell too early for any lino to be obtained on his form and Tutor was beaten when ho fell at tho last fence. Good Finishing Effort Drawing a better post position than on the first day and revelling in the heavy going, High Delight finished in great style to score very decisively in tho Suburban Handicap, for which he was third in demand to Maxam and Pasture. The top-weight Maxam, who was closely attended in the running by her stablemate Rornani, made a good attempt to lead all the way, but there was only one in it when High Delight made his effort near the end. The winner has not had much racing and is a strongly-built gelding by Delightment,' who was a fine performer when tho tracks wero soft. Romani, who began smartly from the outside, stayed better than Maxam to heat her for second. Bonnybelle made an improved showing for fourth. Aero King failed to run on in tho straight after being third at the turn. Huntingmore and pasture, did best of the others. Auckland Cup Winner Shines Tho Auckland Cup winner Cheval de Voice won tho Ralph Handicap from end to end and again demonstrated his ability to act well in heavy going. Cheval do Voleo was always galloping strongly in front and held off a very determined challenge from Gav Rose, who appeared likely to overtake him when sho ranged up 011 the outside at tho distance. Gay Rose ran her best race for some time and handled the heavy going much better than most of tho others. Sergia ran a creditable race for third, and Jack Tar, who carried 9>}lb. overweight, also ran respectably for fourth. Do Friend and Malagigi seemed likely placegetters just after reaching tho straight, but they weakened near the end. Gay Rebel was well placed for a fow furlongs, but then drifted to a rearward position and was never afterward prominent. Owner's Second Win Owner-trainer A. Rowan and jockey H. Long scored their second successive win when they won the Chelsea Handicap with Fils de Vaals, who was only moderately fancied and returned a fine price. Fils de Vaais finished in brilliant fashion to win running away. Like others of the stock of Vaals, iie evidently relishes soft going and tho manner of his victory indicated that he will not be long in winning again. Foxtoon showed improvement and, after being in the rear early, lie looked like winning when 110 took charge at tho foot of tho straight. However, ho could not go with Fils de Vaals in tho last furlong. Classic ran another solid race for third. Esquiro and Gladynov wore running 011 at the finish and they may improve. La Vie failed to stay in the heavy ground and tho favourite Wapaugh also tired after appearing likely at tho straight entrance. Double-figure Dividend Making the most use of her maiden allowance and revelling in the heavy going, the three-year-old Silver Quex sprang a surprise in winning the Hauraki Plato from end to end to return double figures. Silver Quex gained a nice lead in the middle stages and sho held on very gamely when tho pressure was applied in the run home. The winner is a full-sister to Round Up and she had previously run several good races without having the best of luck. Brazilian, who conceded Silver Quex some lengths start entering the straight, made a game effort to overtake her, but tho task was too great. The favourite Balinavar had every chance, being well placed throughout only to weaken at the distanco and finish third. Spinning Wheel did best of the others for fourth. Miss Clipper tired after showing a lot of dash in the middle stages. Maori; Song Beaten Tho second favourito, Royal Bachelor, began brilliantly in tho Devonport Handicap and led all the way to score decisively from the favourite, Maori Song. The first and second horses again displayed their partiality for heavy going and Royal Bachelor has seldom been seen to better advantage, always having tho measure of his opponents. Rulctte battled 011 for third, but Orate and Anion failed to run on in tho going. Solid Run on Outside It was with a solid finishing run on the outside that British Banner got up to win tho Anniversary Handicap from The Trimmer, who borsd out in tho run home after appearing tho winner at the distance. British Banner maintained his effort in fine style and just outstayed The Trimmer, who is racing consistently but unluckily. Loombination again showed his liking for heavy going by battling on solidly for third and just defeating the favourito Valdene, who was always handily placed. Royal Abb, after being last early, was closer in fifth position at tho finish than at any other stage. Tho second fancy, Silver Eaglo, failed to givo any trouble and Full Hand was not seen' at his best in the heavy going. It was Full Hand's last raco in hack company. Trevaec and Silver Glow failed to run on after being in front until reaching the straight.
