AN ARDUOUS JOURNEY

GIRLS ON A TANDEM PERTH TO PARRAMATTA Cycling on a tandem bicycle," two Western Australian girls, Miss Anna Keenin and Miss Vera Harding, travelled all the way from Perth to Parramatta recently. Because it was the only means they had of. travel the two girls faced many hardships in covering country where no roads existed, and the long unbroken stretch of the Nullabor Plain, where the temperature was often 104 degrees in the shade. The young travellers trained first, cycling several hours a day to prepare themselves for the ordeal, and then they set off with their luggage in four small canvas bags attached to the cycle. However, after they had gone 400 miles they were caught up 1 bv an Australian man and his wife who accompanied them in their car the rest of the way 1 . The girls considered there was no reason why women cyclists should look less feminine and attractive than other girls. They did not approve of the wearing of shorts for girl cyclists, as they thought it made them look "cheap." Miss Keenin and Miss Harding wore divided and occasionally plus-fours for their trip.
