GARDEN FETE

PLUNKET FUNDS AIDED ST. HELIERS BRANCH COLOURFUL OUTDOOR SCENE The beautiful gardens at the home of Mrs. James Johnston, of St. Heliers Bay, were shown to. advantage on Saturday afternoon, when a garden fete was held in aid of tho funds of the Plunket Society. The host and hostess were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Johnston. Freshened by the recent rain, the grounds looked charming, the brilliant sunshine setting off the greenness of the lawns, which were broken at intervals by magnificent trees and bordered with gay flower beds. Bright stalls and beach umbrellas completed an attractive scene.

Arranged by the president of the St. Heliers branch of the society, Mrs. John Macky, and her committee, the function proved most successful. The Auckland president, Mrs. J. C. Allan, opened the proceedings and at the conclusion of her address was presented with a bouquet by little Winks Cartridge. On behalf of tho committee, Mrs. Norman Naismith presented a similar bouquet to Mrs. Macky.

The stall-holders were as follows: — Produce, Mrs. J. R. Kingston, Mrs. L. E. Cartridge and Mrs. Peter Savage; cakes, Mrs. E. A. Astley and Mrs. Cecil Goldsbro; fancy goods, Mrs. L. Munro, Mrs. Denis Brown and Miss Edna de Marr; afternoon tea, Mrs. F. A. Browne, Mrs. R. Hamilton, Mrs. Palmer and Mrs. J. F. Johnston; hidden prize, Sirs. G. H. Holford and Mrs. Paul Griffiths; ice cream and drinks, Mrs. S. J. Hanna and Miss Olwyn Davenport; penny trail, Mrs. J. W. Kealyj sweets, Mrs. F. M. M. Robinson, Mrs. T. Kenny and Mrs. Norman Davenport; white elephant, Mrs. G. H. Metcalfe and Mrs. Norman Naismith. Music was provided by the Waterside Workers' Band.
