CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING
PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP [by tklf.graph—own correspondent] TAUMARUXUI, Tuesday The Auckland provincial cla.v-bird championship of 21 birds was held on the Taumarunui Gun Club's range yesterday, and resulted in a win for E. T. Wells, of Cambridge, after a shoot-off with M. Pratt, of Olorohanga. The shoot-off went to 32 birds. C. Benton (Otorohanga), L. Maher (Putaruru), and G. McMullau (Morrinsville) all broke 20 birds. All tho competitors shot from the 18yds mark, and 29 shooters took part. The conditions were dull, with a difficult cross wind, but the shooting was Rood. In the £r>o open handicap shoot, the following broke the possible and divided the prize-money:—J. Duncan (10yds), Taihape; H. L. Sodersten (13yds), Huntly; W. Brinkworth (16yds). Hamilton; E. Benton (11yds) Otorohanga. There were 30 shooters. The trophy shoot of 10 birds-attracted :tii competitors, won by G. McMullin (Morrinsville). after a shoot-off with N. Belk (Utiku). H. G. Morgan (Taumarunui). _J. Dobson (Hamilton), J. B. Thomasen (Taihape), A. J. Hichards (Taumaruaui), E. Benton (Otorohanga), and R. Maher (Ohingaiti) all broke the possible.
