NURSES' HOME
EXTENSION SCHEME ENLARGED PLANS PREPARED NEW WING OF FIVE STOREYS Providing total accommodation for 572 nurses, amended plans for tho proposed new wing for the nurses' home were presented to the Auckland Hospital Board last night. It was suggested that an additional two storeys should be added to the proposed building of three floors which has already been authorised, the whole block being subdivided and so constructed that a further two storeys can bo added when required. The present accommodation is for a staff of 319 and the new wing of five floors would house another 253 nurses.
A lengthy report on futuro requirements was presented by the medical superintendent, Dr. J. W. Craven, who considered that provision should bo made for a total of 6G6 members of tho nursing staff to cater for the next five years. Accommodation should be provided for a domestic staff of 20. The committeo reporting on the matter rocommended that the architect should prepare plans and specifications and submit an estimate of tho cqst. of tho five-storey building, and that the medical superintendent should report on furnishings and equipment. A report from tho consulting electrical engineer was also suggested, together tvith provisions relating to tho financing of tho undertaking. The report was adopted.
BUILDING PROGRAMME BOARD'S SPECIAL MEETING A special meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board will be held early next month to consider the whole of the building programme, stated tho chairman, Mr. Allan J. Moody, at a meetins; of the board last night. Tho board received a comprehensive report on the proposed central laundry which had been prepared by tho late Mr. J. Farrejl, architect to the board. He expressed the opinion that the site should be a section not less than 350 ft. by 200 ft., to permit, the erection of a single-floor laundry. He also considered that, provided the location was within approximately three miles of the main institution, the advantages of possibly being able to secure a more suitable are.a at a far cheaper price would outweigh any extra transport costs. Consideration of the report was deferred.
