BRITISH PRECAUTIONS WOMEN AND CHILDREN PLANS FOR THEIR SAFETY LONDON, August 31 A vast scheme to remove 5,000,000 people from London and other cities to the country in wartime has been completed by a Parliamentary committee under the chairmanship of Sir John Anderson, the former Governor of Bengal, and now M.P. for Scottish Universities. Its report will be submitted to Parliament after the recess. The committee, which was established to consider evacuation as an air raid protection, is expected to recommend a nation-wide survey of secluded areas for mothers, children and aged people, and the provision of rural school camps for children from the industrial areas, and the erection of city bomb-proof shelters for workers in nccessarv industries.
It is proposed to erect camps for children for use in peace time, permitting the children to live in the country for a month at a time.
The Ministry of Transport is considering a scheme for the removal of women and children from danger zones within 72 hours of a proclamation of national emergency. The committee is considering an international agreement not to attack safety zones containing women and children.
