FORMATION FLIGHT
EGYPT TO AUSTRALIA ROYAL AIR FORCE CREWS (Received August 23. 12.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 22 The crews of the four Royal Air Force Vickers Wellesley bombers which will attempt the greatest world formation distance flight on record—from Egypt to Australia —will comprise Squadron-Leader It. Kellett, FlightLieutenants H. Hogan. P. Dunn, A. Combe, A. Saunders, R. Gethering, B. Burnett, R. Musson, Flight-Sergeants M. Gaine, B. Phillips, H. Gray and T. Dixon. Possibly the flight will be from Granwell to Singapore, but Egypt has a longer runway, find, in any case, a flight will be made to Darwin. The tentative date is September 28, depending upon the end of the monsoon but is not likely to bo later than October 10. Tho Air Ministry told the Australian Associated Press that secret test flights had been made with new engines and the machines had several times circled England at over 200 miles an hour. Enormous petrol tanks have been installed.
