BUILDING PERMITS
; NON-PAYMENT OF FEES GOVERNMENT CRITICISED The practice of the Government in refusing to pay building permit fees for State houses to the local authority concerned was criticised by the Mayor. Mr. S. Evans, at a meeting of the Papakura Borough Council last night. "The New Lynn council lost £l2O in building permits when State houses wenu erected in tho borough," Mr. Evans said. "If this work had been undertaken by private enterprise tho by-laws would have enforced payment of these dues. It seems a strange thing to me that tho Government should make such by-laws legal and then override them itself. I think the Government should be the last to break the by-laws." It was decided to go into the question of securing the erection of State houses on lands and reserves in the borough.
