DEMAND FOR LAND
FARM OWNER'S EXPERIENCE EFFECT OF LABOUR PROBLEM Describing his experience as showing that tliero was a tremendous demand for land and an urgent desire to escape from farming positions where there was an extreme difficulty in securing labour, Mr. F. W. P. Fagan, of Panmure, stdted yesterday that no sooner had he advertised a position which, contained an option of leasing a small farm than he was deluged with applicants. Within a few hours he dealt with about 30 applicants and instead of being able to have his breakfast at 8 a.m. he had it at 10.30.
All the men-, he said, were of an excellent type. Many of them had been share-milking large herds of up to 130 cows and they told him that they were tired of trying to cope with the labour question and would welcome an opportunity of managing a farm where they could do all their own labour. They also showed that* they were extremely keen to take up, land. Most of the applicants were young men.
